Genesis 11:1
全 人 在 全 地 兮 用 乃 一 共 语。他 们 兮 说 乃 同 词。
quán rén zài quán dì xī yòng nǎi yī gòng yǔ。tā men xī shuō nǎi tóng cí。
All the people throughout the earth used one shared language. They spoke the same words.
Genesis 11:2
当 什 他 们 兮 旅 从 东，他 们 兮 察 乃 平 地 在 Shinar 地。他 们 兮 留 在 那 处。
dāng shén tā men xī lǚ cóng dōng，tā men xī chá nǎi píng dì zài Shinar dì。tā men xī liú zài nà chù。
While they travelled from the east, they found level land in the land of Shinar. They stayed there.
Genesis 11:3
人 兮 说 给 别 人 什「兮 做 给 我 们 什 我 们 兮 做 乃 土 块！兮 做 给 我 们 什 我 们 兮 完 做 用 火 乃 它 呈 硬！」他 们 兮 用 乃 陶 块。他 们 兮 不 用 乃 石。他 们 兮 用 为 什 他 们 兮 粘 乃 陶 块，乃 黑 油 物 从 地 什 呈 粘。他 们 兮 不 用 乃 粘 土 糊。
rén xī shuō gěi bié rén shén「xī zuò gěi wǒ men shén wǒ men xī zuò nǎi tǔ kuài！xī zuò gěi wǒ men shén wǒ men xī wán zuò yòng huǒ nǎi tā chéng yìng！」tā men xī yòng nǎi táo kuài。tā men xī bù yòng nǎi shí。tā men xī yòng wèi shén tā men xī nián nǎi táo kuài，nǎi hēi yóu wù cóng dì shén chéng nián。tā men xī bù yòng nǎi nián tǔ hú。
People said to other people: “Bring it about for us that we make blocks of earth! Bring it about for us that we finish making them hard by fire!” They used ceramic blocks, rather than rock. To stick the ceramic blocks together, they used black oily material from the ground that was sticky. They did not use sticky earth paste for this work.
Genesis 11:4
他 们 兮 说 什「兮 做 给 我 们 什 我 们 兮 建 乃 城 和 塔！我 们 兮 欲 什 最 更 高 的 塔 部 兮 到 乃 天。为 什 我 们 呈 不 散 上 全 地，兮 做 给 我 们 什 我 们 兮 做 什 多 人 兮 知 乃 我 们！」
tā men xī shuō shén「xī zuò gěi wǒ men shén wǒ men xī jiàn nǎi chéng hé tǎ！wǒ men xī yù shén zuì gèng gāo de tǎ bù xī dào nǎi tiān。wèi shén wǒ men chéng bù sàn shàng quán dì，xī zuò gěi wǒ men shén wǒ men xī zuò shén duō rén xī zhī nǎi wǒ men！」
They said: “Bring it about for us that we make a city and a tower! We want the highest part of the tower to reach the sky. So that we are not spread over the whole earth, bring it about for us that we make many people know us!”
Genesis 11:5
君 兮 动 往 下 处 为 什 君 兮 看 乃 那 城 和 那 塔。人 兮 在 建 乃 那 城 和 那 塔。
jūn xī dòng wǎng xià chù wèi shén jūn xī kàn nǎi nà chéng hé nà tǎ。rén xī zài jiàn nǎi nà chéng hé nà tǎ。
The Lord moved downward in order to see the city and the tower. People were making the city and the tower.
Genesis 11:6
君 兮 说 什「兮 看 乃 他 们！他 们 乃 一 民。他 们 兮 全 用 乃 一 共 语。他 们 兮 开 做 乃 这 事。今，任 事 在 他 们 程 呈 不 从 兮 堵。」
jūn xī shuō shén「xī kàn nǎi tā men！tā men nǎi yī mín。tā men xī quán yòng nǎi yī gòng yǔ。tā men xī kāi zuò nǎi zhè shì。jīn，rèn shì zài tā men chéng chéng bù cóng xī dǔ。」
The Lord said: “Look at them! They are one people. They all use one shared language. They are beginning to do this. Now, any undertaking in their plan will not be obstructed.”
Genesis 11:7
「兮 做 给 我 们 什 我 们 兮 动 往 下 处！在 那 处，为 什 他 们 兮 不 知 乃 别 人 的 话，兮 做 给 我 们 什 我 们 兮 做 乃 他 们 语 呈 惑！」
「xī zuò gěi wǒ men shén wǒ men xī dòng wǎng xià chù！zài nà chù，wèi shén tā men xī bù zhī nǎi bié rén de huà，xī zuò gěi wǒ men shén wǒ men xī zuò nǎi tā men yǔ chéng huò！」
“Bring it about for us that we move downward! There, so that they do not understand other people’s speech, bring it about for us that we make their language confusing!”
Genesis 11:8
则，君 兮 做 什 他 们 兮 散 从 那 处 上 全 地。他 们 兮 停 建 乃 那 城。
zé，jūn xī zuò shén tā men xī sàn cóng nà chù shàng quán dì。tā men xī tíng jiàn nǎi nà chéng。
So the Lord caused them to spread from that place over the whole earth. They stopped making the city.
Genesis 11:9
因 什 君 兮 做 在 那 处 乃 全 人 的 语 呈 惑，那 城 呈 从 兮 名 乃 Babel。君 兮 做 什 他 们 兮 散 从 那 处 上 全 地。
yīn shén jūn xī zuò zài nà chù nǎi quán rén de yǔ chéng huò，nà chéng chéng cóng xī míng nǎi Babel。jūn xī zuò shén tā men xī sàn cóng nà chù shàng quán dì。
Because the Lord made the language of all the people confusing there, the city is named Babel. The Lord caused them to spread from that place over the whole earth.
The building materials are described with ordinary words. These descriptions convey their use in the story without precisely distinguishing brick, bitumen, and mortar.
